Okay, I purchased this poor thing almost a year ago. When I want something, I tend to overlook problems, and this one has it's share! I'm looking to tear everything apart this weekend. The Big hurdle is getting the rear axle out of the swingarm. Someone was kind enough to weld the wheel hubs, brake hub, and sprocket hub to the axle. I rekon they didn't want it coming loose! Got a LOT of new parts, and parts off of Ebay over the past year. I'll share the progress as it moves along. Attachments:

So whats the solution at this point? Grind and break welds, and replace the rear end?

That's going to be my first attempt. I wanted to get a bunch of pictures yesterday before I started tearing it apart. That's when I found out my older camera didn't like to work with Windows7. I do have another axle and all the hubs. I'm interested in getting those wheels off too, they don't look like they are beat up, which is hard to believe!

I'm just not sure whyit seems three wheelers of the period are in worse condition than any atv' of that period. Is that a steel gas tank, with a dent in it?

Yes, steel gas tank. The earlier versions of this machine (83-85) have plastic tanks available. As luck would have it, the 86-87 does NOT have this option. I have been watching Ebay for better than 6 months to find a tank that was in good enough shape to work with, and not pay over $100. I picked one up two weeks ago, in very good shape, but it has a few things that will have to be fixed before it gets a new inside coating and new paint.
The air scoops also aren't available for the 86-87 model, but someone in the trike community has made a mold and makes them in various custom colors. I messed up and let my nephew choose that I buy some black ones, and now I have to wait and try to find some in red when the guy makes more. I am going to try and keep the color scheme stock(ish). They had white fenders and tank, red frame, headlight, and air scoops, and a blue seat. I purchased a new OEM seat from Honda last week, have all new white plastics, and looking to powdercoat in the coming month.
Nothing baffles me more than finding these machines that have sit outside for years on end. I guess folks do what they can, but I just can't imagine having a powertoy that I paid good money for, and let it sit out in the elements and weather away..............

Not sure what that bondo or jbweld is down in the bottom. I imagine it's a hole, but it shouldn't be too bad to patch that up a little better. The inside will get coated with caswell tank sealer, and it "should" be good to go from there. I'm having a tough time fingering out if the area below the cap is pushed in, or if it's supposed to be shaped like that. I am trying to find some photos to help make the determination. But, the sides aren't caved in, and no dents otherwise. So, at this point this is my best starting point! Attachments:

I cant beleive they bont make a plastic replacement for it, like IMS or something. I had a an old kawi tank on a 700 that was mostly JBWELB, and held. The bike sat o a deck for twenty six years. I ended up trading for one that was beat to hell and bondoed the crap out of it cause the tank seemed to be double or triple layered, so there was no pushing out the dents. I ended up stripping the badges, I thought it turned out pretty good...

Yeah, most of the common trikes have a plastic tank available through either Clarke or IMS. For reasons I don't know, the 86-87 year 200X doesn't have tanks or air scoops available. I was pretty excited to find out that I could buy a new OEM seat! I paid more than what most folks would, but the new foam and covers available were sketchy if they really were correct for this year, again............ Attachments:

Its like they never considered bearings going bad.. Idiots but hey when its all said and done, you can cut that axle up and make a nice whacker.. The swinger itself dosn;t look in bad shape
