so i have mike's 660 in my shop, prepping it for sale.... it sat for a few months, and now it has a slight (and quick) stutter in the high rpm's every gear.. full throttle, it slutters for a sec and goes away right before u shift into next gear. i can duplicate the stutter at low rpm's in a high gear full throttle and it is much more severe and long lasting until it hits a higher rpm...the bike fires right up no choke, and idles fine, no smoke. so i changed the plug, drained old gas, refilled with 91 octane - no fix i swapped petcock with my bike - no fix i removed air box and duct's, used a whole can of carb cleaner in it, removed all that i could without actually taking carbs off - no fix so now i took carbs off, found one of the small black hose's coming off bottom of carb has huge hole- replaced.... moved on to removing the bowls, and saw this (see pic)... im assuming that aint right Attachments:

well my crappy manual didnt specify it this is right or not... only stated that it is the starter choke jet... finally found a pic online, and im NOT missing a jet, carbs only have one of those.

those raptors seem to have carb problems, i know several guys that absolutely hate messing with the carbs on them. i would think if its a starter jet, it would have something to do with the pilot circuit or feed for it. which could very well cause a stutter on the lower rpms.

I maintain my own & friends' quads. Seems like 90% or more of engine problems are from dirty carburetors. They all seem to need a carb clean/overhaul/adjustment about every couple of years. KEI makes a lot of carbs for these small engines and they use a lot of different designs. These carbs have valves & porting covering 4 different RPM (air flow) ranges so that the richness/leanness of the air fuel mixture remains correct. It sounds like either your high speed ports are clogged or that your low speed port are clogged and the idle and mixtures have been adjusted to compensate for this at low RPM. The key to ensure all ports are clean (they gum up) and get pilot jets/ports set right. You might want to get the overhaul kits and some carb cleaner. Pull the carbs and work someplace with lots of light where you won't lose any small parts and some bowls or bags (sandwich bags work great) in which to put the small parts while you are cleaning the carb. A friend takes pictures as he disassembles parts and finds that helps him get things back together right. Be especially careful with small springs and to make sure that the mini-orings are replaced where needed. Having the exact carb diagram is handy. I had a problem with one quad we could not fix, despite overhauling the carb twice. Then I checked the diagram and found there was supposed to be a mini-oring on the pilot valve was missing. The orings deteriorate and even disintegrate over time. Good time to change the spark plugs too if you have not already done so. Sorry if I'm preaching to the choir. Good luck. - DaveH
