just wondering if anybody knows alot about the dvx400/z400/ltz400/kfx400 ?? any common or known issue's with these? anything i should look for when buying?

Mitch everything i have ever heard or seen about any 400 is they are durable. and like any other quad like to be maintained.. The honda 400ex is one very tough machine I know from experience. Very well balanced for wheelies and jumping..

i like and prefer the 400ex also... but no reverse until 2005. we gotta have reverse, and 2005 and up is outta of our price range for a nice and clean one.. im on the hunt for a dvx, i like the removable fenders.
my son doesnt like the way the 400ex looks...whatever, haha . i think they look good

Well Mitch in my opinion. The Ltz400 is by far one of if not the best all around atv on the market. Hands down out performs a modded 400ex in stock form. 2003-04 had an issue with the frame above the front shock m,ounts cracking. But usually only under extreme conditions. My 03 finally cracked in dec after a trip to the mx track. in 2006 the Z got remote ressie shocks which really helped the ride, and in 09 it got fuel injection. The KFX is identical in always, the DVX had a much narrower seat. Many often compared it to riding a hatchet around, its more like a dirt bike, and the plastics of it and mounting tabs were all different than the ltz/kfx. 400ex is oil cooled, you hit one of those lines in the woods and its bye bye to the motor before you know its been hit. Ltz is liquid cooled. I formed a leak just the other day and when my little heat light came on I was able to stop at a nearby stream and refill to get me back to the truck.
other than looks and reverse the 400ex has went virtually unchanged. some may say that is because it was a perfect design, others will say its because the 450r and others were more important. Ltz took second fiddle for a couple years till the LTR market tapered off and is now back under suzis lime light, with new plastics, for 2013.
My bike celebrates its 10th birthday this year, and has been ridden very hard, but taken care of. Im still running on the stock valve train, with no maintenence to it other than a new t-chain, and only now its starting to show signs of sloppy valves. They are nimble, easy to control machines that will adapt to whatever situation you put it in easily..

thanks for the info, i'll definitly check the front shock mounts. im officially on the hunt, looking for a CLEAN DVX, with a stock engine and stock exhaust

Not been to bad. Been pretty busy. This year has been hectic so far, first the coolant leak on my ltz, then the battery, then the battery on my goldwing, starter solenoid, now starter, than today blew the motor on our polaris xplorer 4x4 400 2amoke. so lots of work really. I stay in touch with eastwood. Kris made a pretty good recovery. sold all the quads but is starting to pick some up again. His leg will never be right and still gives him pain from time to time but he'll make it.
The dvx will tend to be harder to find, due to limited production. All stock is good, the main thing is the valve train.
