After over 2 months, I've got stuff back from the powdercoater. Paid WAY more than I expected, but not much I can do about it now. My nephew said at the dunes last weekend that he'd like to learn how to work on a motor. He's getting the motor for this machine tomorrow to start tearing the top end apart and see what shape it's in. I'll get a performance cam for it while it's apart, and see what else we have to deal with. I've been collecting parts for over 6 months for this project. This has been the hardest trike to find parts for, and I'm sure there's going to be something that I missed along my searches. But, I'll deal with it as it comes along.

www.customcoatingsandmetal.com/I found a place in Lawrence, and they charge $230 for ATV frame (strip & powder). I don't know if the newer models are already powdercoated, or baked paint. Removing old powdercoat is what will cost you! They charge by the piece, and I didn't agree that my frame should cost the same as an ATV frame. Some of the other parts didn't make sense on their prices, IMHO. I walked out paying over $500, and I think the last one I did cost me closer to $250-300 a few years ago. I'd sent an email requesting price to do 2 trike frames & parts, and he said $400. I assumed he meant for 2 trikes, not each, plus more....and he took 6-7 weeks to get it done.

Hmmmm, yesterday was a "Lucky SOB day", and those don't happen for me very often! I was to meet up with someone about repairing and painting a gas tank for this project. I just happened to do a Craigslist search within 1000 miles of Topeka, and came across a NEW gas tank that someone was selling! I paid less for this NOS tank than what the painter wanted to fix/paint an old tank! These gas tanks are no longer available, and if he'd put it up on Ebay, he would have sold it for more than twice what I paid.................. We tore the top end apart for inspection of the motor, and found some damage in the cam and rockers. Seems the oil pump chain came off, and looks like it was ran for a while like that. These parts are no longer available new, so it's going to put a delay on completing this trike.

Well hope you can find the parts to fix that baby.Wow that is a very nice looking tank dont look like it was on the bike No Sir, that tank has never had gas put in it, or been mounted to a trike. The owner has kept it wrapped in a blanket. This was like finding a needle in a haystack, and I feel pretty darn lucky. Sadly, I ride my machines, so this is going to get used and not sit in a closet.................. I'm thinking about sending it off to have a mold made to make plastic tanks for this model. This is one of the few trikes that you can't buy plastic tanks for.

What a drag this project has been. My nephew wanted to learn to work on a motor, so I gave him the original for this project, and told him we needed to tear the top end apart and see what we were working with. The cam and rockers were burnt up pretty good, looks like the oil pump chain came off and they ran it for a while like this. It took me a LONG time to find parts, in fact I had to buy a motor out of a 200SX quad to use the top end parts. But, the motor appears to have very few hours on it. I bought a new piston, and got the cylinder bored. Then we spent an afternoon cleaning everything up and painting it all, before we would put it back together. I had a side cover that was polished, and the kid took the old one off to be ready for assembly of the motor. When I got there, we found that someone threw a carpet over the motor, and it dropped sand into the lower end. I've spent the past two weeks trying to get someone to ship a motor to me, but you know how it is dealing with folks over the internet. I could tear the original bottom end apart and clean out the sand, but man that really sucks to do without a lot of room and comfortable working conditions....................................... Maybe I should clear out a spot in the living room and just do it. I've done bottom ends before, but not in a garage when it was 100+ degrees out...................
